ARTISOFT AND POLYCOM TO OFFER STANDARDS-BASED IP-PBX SOLUTION
Flexible solution enables businesses to easily migrate from circuit-switched to VoIP telephony
Cambridge, Mass. and Milpitas, Calif. – December 12, 2001 — Artisoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASFT), developer of the first software-based phone system, and Polycom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), a worldwide leader in the convergence of interactive voice, video and data communications, today announced the general availability of an advanced IP-PBX solution based on Artisoft’s award-winning TeleVantage software. This joint solution enables remote and branch office users to seamlessly interact with their TeleVantage phone system at a corporate location using IP technology.
The solution combines Artisoft’s TeleVantage software, Intel Dialogic computer telephony boards which provide voice over IP capability running on Pentium®-based computers, and Polycom SoundPoint® IP 400 VoIP phones to provide businesses with a standards-based, flexible IP-PBX system. Unlike proprietary IP-PBX approaches, TeleVantage enables both traditional circuit-based and VoIP switching on the same system. This allows a company to add IP telephones incrementally and only where needed rather than throughout the company, reducing up-front costs in the transition to VoIP. It also enables businesses with multiple sites to reduce the cost of long-distance calling by routing calls inexpensively over IP networks.
“This powerful combination provides an ideal VoIP solution for our customers,” said Steve Manson, president and CEO of Artisoft. “For companies that are interested in the benefits of IP telephony, whether at headquarters, branch offices, virtual workstations or web-based call centers, the TeleVantage IP-PBX gives them the flexibility to incorporate this new technology at their own pace along with the comfort of knowing that they’re using industry-standard hardware from market leaders like Intel and Polycom.”
The solution is based on TeleVantage 4.0, a feature-rich, software-based phone system that delivers greater flexibility, reliability and lower cost of ownership for small to midsize businesses. With Polycom SoundPoint IP 400 phones, TeleVantage users are now able to access their phone system using an Intranet or the Internet. The SoundPoint IP 400 phone includes a large digital display screen, feature keys pre-programmed for TeleVantage, four context-sensitive soft keys, individual controls for speakerphone, handset, headset and mute.
“This is precisely the solution my customers are looking for,” said Dale Whitney, president of NETiMAGE, Inc., an Authorized TeleVantage Solution Provider. “It provides them with an evolutionary migration path to voice over IP, and is based on industry leading brands they can trust.”
“We are pleased to be working with Intel and Artisoft to bring about this solution,” said Sunil Bhalla, senior vice president and general manager of voice communications for Polycom. “We are committed to delivering standards-based solutions that give customers the freedom to tailor the best platform and application solutions for their business.”
According to John Amein, director of product management for Intel’s Telecom and Embedded Group, “The powerful call handling features and the easy and cost-effective migration capability of this leading-edge communication solution are great examples of how end users benefit from open standards and the combination of companies focusing on their core expertise.”
The Artisoft and Polycom solution is available now from Artisoft’s worldwide network of dealers and value-added resellers. For more information, contact Artisoft at 800-914-9985.
