TANDBERG Launches Industry's First Wireless Set-top Videoconferencing Unit
Compact TANDBERG 880 Combines Outstanding Functionality with Sleek Design;Runs on Wireless LAN
Oslo, February 11, 2002 - TANDBERG, a global provider of videoconferencing solutions, continues to assert its technology leadership position with the introduction of a feature-rich new set-top unit, the TANDBERG 880. This sleek videoconferencing unit offers outstanding features and performance capabilities in a flexible and mobile set-top product. The TANDBERG 880 is the first set-top unit to incorporate a slot for a wireless LAN card, enabling customers to use it as a shared office resource in a wireless LAN environment. The small frame and elegant silver and black design of the TANDBERG 880 make it a perfect fit both in size and appearance for any standard television set.
"One of the main advantages we offer to the videoconferencing user is our broad product line. We have a system to suit every application, room size, décor, functionality requirement and budget," said Sverre Kjenne, President of TANDBERG. "An integral part of this offering, the TANDBERG 880 is the ideal unit for those who require a flexible set-top solution without compromising features and performance. With the TANDBERG 880, companies can quickly and effectively bring people together. The unit takes up little space and is perfect for videoconferencing usage in any medium or small sized meeting room."
The TANDBERG 880 conveniently transforms any standard TV into a meeting place. Despite its compact size, the unit has a multitude of outstanding features. The embedded MultiSite feature allows the connection of up to 10 video and 4 audio sites through Cascading with any mix of IP and ISDN endpoints-in a single videoconferencing call. The Natural Presenter Package includes Duo Video, Digital Clarity and PC Presenter. Duo Video allows participants at the remote site to simultaneously watch the presenter on one screen and view the live presentation on the adjoining screen. Digital Clarity automatically transmits live images from PCs and document cameras at a resolution four times that of standard videoconferencing quality, providing brilliant colors and crystal clear images. PC Presenter makes plugging a PC into the system extremely easy through a direct access plug.
TANDBERG has also incorporated features to make the TANDBERG 880 even more suitable for a small room environment. Unlike competitive offerings, the unit does not have a fan, which users find noisy and distracting. In addition, TANDBERG has improved the camera tilt for a better focus on groups in a small room.
The TANDBERG 880 also fully supports the features recently launched in TANDBERG's latest software update. These include Embedded Encryption, which allows organizations to protect their intellectual property by ensuring secure transmission of audio, video and electronic data during a videoconference on public networks. TANDBERG is the first vendor to introduce embedded standards-based encryption software. Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), promoted by Cisco, is another feature supported by the TANDBERG 880 and represents a significant step towards ensuring high quality images and sound for the duration of a video call on IP networks. To support these features, the TANDBERG 880 offers bandwidth capabilities of 384kbps on ISDN BRI and 768kbps on IP and Wireless LAN.
Availability The TANDBERG 880 is available for immediate delivery at a starting price of $9990.
