TANDBERG BRINGS SECURITY TO VIDEOCONFERENCING WITH EMBEDDED ENCRYPTION
Latest Software Offers Industry's First Embedded Security Feature, IP Enhancements and Additional Functionality
Oslo, February 4, 2002
TANDBERG, a global leader in videoconferencing, today announced its new B4 software with embedded encryption for its complete portfolio of videoconferencing solutions. With the new software, organizations can protect their intellectual property by ensuring secure transmission of audio, video and electronic data during a videoconference on public networks.
"With the new software, we are addressing an important issue for our customers. Companies know that all information is an asset to be protected, and we are seeing an increase in the number of organizations actively seeking the tools to do it," said Sverre Kjenne, President of TANDBERG. "Our new software is a cost effective and transparent solution to this critical need."
"Security is becoming a growing concern for companies as they increase their adoption of videoconferencing - they don't want unauthorized people "listening in" to private, often confidential business meetings," said Andrew W. Davis, senior analyst and managing partner at Wainhouse Research. "With the release of B4, TANDBERG is ahead of the game. Previously, a user needed to add encryption hardware or external boxes from specialized vendors. This resulted in awkward delays and degraded video quality. TANDBERG is the first vendor to introduce embedded, standards-based encryption in software. TANDBERG is providing its customers with an encryption solution that is cost effective, reliable, and easy to use because it is totally user transparent."
Like all TANDBERG features, encryption is standards-based to ensure interoperability between systems. Unlike some other encryption solutions, there is no loss of functionality during an encrypted call. Point-to-point ISDN calls between systems with the new software are automatically encrypted, without users having to activate the function or enter any encryption keys. Calls to systems without the encryption software will be unaffected.
In addition to the new encryption functionality, the B4 software includes many other features and enhancements. TANDBERG's new software extends the quality of service offered over IP. TANDBERG has added Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) promoted by Cisco to its existing support for IP Precedence and Type of Service. This is a significant improvement towards ensuring high quality images and sound for the duration of a video call.
The new software also introduces new functionality for TANDBERG's embedded MultiSite TF:
- MultiSite TF feature with expanded cascading functionality, which allows users to connect up to 10 video sites and 4 audio sites on ISDN and IP.
- MultiSite TF with Chair Control allows the user to take the floor, select who is seen on the screen and swap between Continuous Presence and Voice Switched mode.
Other enhancements include:
- A web interface for entering text and closed captioning (T.140)
- Extended voice switched streaming functionality, streaming from both local and far end sites
- Access codes to ensure only authorized people are allowed to use the organizations' resources
- Account codes used for billing procedures and cost allocation
- Password protection for increased control
o IP password o Streaming password o H.243 MCU password o VNC password
- Voice over IP (G.711)
- Support for Cisco wireless LAN card
- 'Maximum call length', giving the user the ability to specify the length of any call
- Remote ISDN/IP software updates using the Web
TF - TANDBERG Firsts - indicates TANDBERG was first to introduce the feature to the videoconferencing market.
Availability B4 software is now shipping on all systems in the TANDBERG portfolio, and is also offered as an optional update for existing TANDBERG systems.
